OUR AUDITING PROCESS

From assessment to action.

Every KMB audit follows a structured process designed to provide an independent view of how an operation performs in practice.

We begin by understanding the operation, its activities and existing systems before assessing how procedures and standards are applied on the ground. Findings are recorded and risk-weighted through KMB’s assessment platform, providing clients with a clear picture of areas of compliance, potential risk and opportunities for improvement.

The process does not end with identifying findings. Each assessment is designed to provide clear, practical next steps that businesses can use to address identified risks and strengthen their operations.

A PRACTICAL VIEW OF YOUR OPERATIONS

Every operation is different, which is why our audits and assessments are designed to look beyond policies and procedures and understand how your operation works in practice.

We assess the people, processes, equipment, systems and working environments that shape day-to-day operations. Through observation, discussions and a review of relevant documentation and evidence, we provide an independent view of your operation — identifying areas of compliance, potential risk and opportunities for improvement.

Our approach is practical, objective and tailored to the specific nature of each operation, giving you a clear understanding of where you stand and what can be done next.

AN INTEGRATED APPROACH

Our operational audits can be combined with a Sustainability Assessment, allowing both operational practices and sustainability considerations to be reviewed as part of a broader assessment.

This provides a more complete view of the operation, considering not only how activities are managed, but also their relationship with the environments in which they take place.

Businesses that successfully complete the Sustainability Assessment are awarded the KMB Responsible Operations Badge, recognising their commitment to responsible operating practices.

01 – DOCUMENT REVIEW

We review relevant documentation, procedures and records to understand the operation, its existing systems and the standards currently in place.

02 – ON-SITE ASSESSMENT

We observe the operation in practice, looking at how procedures, systems and standards are applied within the day-to-day working environment.

03 – STAFF ENGAGEMENT

We engage directly with relevant team members to understand responsibilities, working practices and how the operation functions in practice.

04 – FINDINGS & CLASSIFICATION

Findings are classified as Compliance, Minor Non-Conformities, Major Non-Conformities and Areas for Improvement, providing a structured view of performance across the assessment.

05 – RISK

ASSESSMENT

Findings are recorded through KMB’s dedicated assessment platform. Risk-weighted responses generate individual section ratings and an overall risk score.

06 – REPORTING & RECOMMENDATIONS

Clients receive an executive summary, full assessment report and corrective action plan, with practical recommendations addressing identified risks and areas for improvement.

THE DELIVERABLES

Every KMB audit or assessment is supported by clear, structured deliverables that provide both an overall view of the operation and practical guidance for moving forward.

Clients receive:

    • Executive Summary: a concise overview of key findings and overall performance.
    • Full Assessment Report: a detailed record of our observations and findings.
    • Corrective Action Plan: a clear, practical actions addressing areas where improvement is required.
    • Audit Completion Certificate: a formal confirmation of the completed audit or assessment.

A CLEAR VIEW OF YOUR OPERATION

The result is an independent assessment of how the operation performs in practice, supported by structured findings, risk scoring and clear recommendations. This allows businesses to understand both where standards are being met and where further action may be required.

FOLLOW UP AUDITS

Where an audit identifies areas requiring corrective action, KMB will work with you to determine the appropriate follow-up process based on the severity and risk level of the findings.
Following the initial audit, we conduct a closing meeting in person to review the key observations, discuss areas requiring attention and ensure that the findings are clearly understood. We will then agree on the appropriate next steps and, where required, schedule a follow-up audit with you.
Follow-up audits may generally be conducted remotely, however, where findings present a higher level of risk or require physical verification, an in-person site visit may be recommended.
The timing and format of each follow-up audit will therefore be determined based on the audit results, the nature of the findings and the corrective actions required. Our approach is designed to provide appropriate verification without creating unnecessary disruption to your operations.

RECERTIFICATION AUDITS & ASSESSMENTS

Recertification audits and assessments are conducted every two years to verify continued compliance and assess ongoing performance against the applicable requirements.
The recertification process follows the same structured approach as an initial audit, including an on-site assessment, review of relevant documentation and records, and discussions with key personnel where required. Particular attention is given to progress since the previous audit, the implementation of corrective actions and any changes to the operation that may affect compliance or risk.
This ongoing approach ensures that audits are not treated as a one-time exercise, but as part of a continuous cycle of assessment, improvement and verification.
